Attorney: Fort Worth priest barred from kids

FORT WORTH, TX

Tahira Merritt tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that a settlement reached Tuesday requires the Rev. William Paiz to not hold any position that gives him access to children, juveniles or young adults. Paiz will also not be allowed to identify himself as a priest.

A civil lawsuit accused Paiz of abusing the unnamed former student between 1982 and 1987, starting when he was 16. The ex-student is now in his 40s.

A spokeswoman for the Fort Worth Roman Catholic Diocese says people who say they have been abused have several ways within the church to address their grievances.
