Woman killed by brother's gun in apparent accident

HOUSTON

The Jackson family was gathering at a home in the 4600 block of Kingsbury Street near Wayland when they say a man's gun accidentally went off and shot his sister.

It happened around 5pm.

Rochelle Jackson, 21, and her brother, Rondrick, were going to a family picnic around 5pm. Police say Rochelle was standing in the driveway and Rondrick was walking into the house, holding a holstered pistol in his hands.

"The pistol fell out of the holster. When it hit the ground, it discharged one time, hitting the sister in the head and it killed her instantly," HPD Homicide Investigator Bart Oxspring said. "Right now we're treating this as an accident, but we're still interviewing anybody."

Rondrick and another brother were taken into police custody for questioning.

Their father, Ronald Jackson, was brokenhearted by the news. He told us he had just spoken to his daughter on the phone. They were making plans for Father's Day.

"I feel hurt about it," he said. "But it was an accident and it happened, you know?"

No charges have been filed. The investigation into this shooting is ongoing. Please stay with Eyewitness News and abc13.com for updates.
