DPS: Mexican cartels recruiting HS students

HOUSTON

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a warning to parents that mexican drug cartels are trying to lure Texas teens to help them in their smuggling operations. Teens living near the US-Mexico border are more vulnerable but with cartels already working with Houston area gangs, local teens as recruits are also a possibility.

"Wherever they have to travel through, they want to have connections. They want to have the people to protect their product. They want to have people that can establish their communcation sales," said DPS Region 2 Commander Duane Steen.

The DPS urged parents to talk to their children and explain how the drug cartels try to teenagers.
