Two fire departments responded to the scene last night on County Road 4 near the town of Damon. State troopers say the plane was making an emergency landing, when it clipped the top of a power line. The plane crash landed on a gravel road, but the power line arced and ignited the fire.
"Our fire department here in Damon and West Columbia volunteer fire department responded and put it out pretty quick," said Fire Chief Hugh Ferguson chief with the Damon Fire Department.
The plane's pilot safely escaped the wreckage. He was the only person onboard. Investigators say the plane stalled mid-flight.
