San Antonio officer killed in fiery weekend crash

SAN ANTONIO, TX

Sheriff's deputies were alerted an officer was in trouble late Saturday night when an emergency button in the constable's vehicle was activated. Deputy Chief Dale Bennett says the San Antonio Police Department then reported a deputy had been involved in a wreck.

The San Antonio Express-Times reported 49-year-old Sgt. Mark Scianna was working his normal overnight traffic supervisor shift Saturday night around 10:30 p.m., when he crashed into a utility pole. The vehicle rolled over, ejected Scianna and then hit a second utility pole before blowing up.

Investigators are trying to figure out whether Scianna was trying to cite someone for speeding when the accident happened.
