City of Houston may tap into Lake Conroe for water

HOUSTON Lake Conroe was built as a joint venture between Houston and the San Jacinto River Authority. The city owns two-thirds of the water rights.

Initial estimates show the city may request the release of 150 million gallons a day to stabilize the water level at Lake Houston. The releases would begin sometime within the next two weeks and probably continue until the drought ends.
