Accused drunk driver charged in fatal accident

HOUSTON

Nefi Cruz, 22, is charged with accident involving injury and intoxication manslaughter in the 176th State District Court.

According to several witnesses, the male victim, Rodrigo Caballero Cisneros, was driving a black Ford Mustang eastbound on Harwin about 2:05am Saturday. Cruz was driving a silver Volkswagen Golf southbound on the West Sam Houston Parkway and ran a red light at the intersection of Harwin. The Volkswagen then struck the Ford, causing it to spin and hit the concrete median on the south side of Harwin. Cisneros, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cruz then fled the scene on foot but was taken into custody by HPD patrol officers a short distance away.
