Two Houston public works employees have resigned, and indefinite suspension proceedings are underway for a third because of allegations they stole scrap metal.

As we first told you last Friday, 29 workers are accused of pocketing brass and copper from repaired fire hydrants or water meters and selling the metal to scrap yards for personal profit.

The other employees have been relieved of duty with pay until the investigation is complete.

The public works department is now reviewing procedures to make sure this doesn't happen again.
