A 59-year-old Livingston man accused using his car to strike a deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service has been convicted of assaulting a federal officer. U.S. Attorney John M. Bales said that a jury on Wednesday convicted Rayford Elton Leach of assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon. Leach faces up to 20 years in prison.

According to information presented in court, Leach was wanted on a parole warrant in 2009 after being convicted of aggravated robbery in Harris County. Upon locating Leach at a Livingston intersection, officers placed their cars around his vehicle. Leach then reversed his car, striking a deputy marshal and hitting another officer's car.

The injured deputy marshal shot Leach once as Leach hit two more cars.
