Commissioners to discuss open beach law, Dynamo stadium

HOUSTON It's also the last commissioners court meeting for Commissioner Sylvia Garcia. She was defeated last month by a politically-unknown candidate on a shoestring budget in an anti-Obama landslide.

The court is taking another step towards a new stadium for the Houston Dynamo soccer team. The county will vote on a procedural, land-related item that will move the project forward. However, there are still major steps left to take.

The county attorney will join in an open beaches lawsuit. This involves some land on West Beach in Galveston and a baffling Texas Supreme Court vote that allows a landowner, who filed suit, to rebuild beyond the vegetation line. This flies in the face of established Texas open beach law.
