In addition to the parade, this year there is also a job fair for veterans. The city tells us 21 percent of the veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and other overseas assignments are unemployed, underemployed or unable to translate their military skills into the job market. The job fair is also at city hall. It runs from 11am until 2pm.

Houston On Thursday, November 11, 2010, the City of Houston will show support of our Armed Forces as we celebrate the 12th Annual Houston Salutes American Heroes Veteran's Day Commemoration and Parade. The ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m. on the steps of City Hall. The American Heroes Parade will follow at 11:30 a.m. and travel down Smith Street between Texas and Lamar. The AT&T Veterans Job Fair will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at City Hall where top companies will be recruiting. Rice University Rice University will honor the more than 100 veterans among its faculty, staff and students at an 11 a.m. ceremony at Rice Memorial Center's Ray Courtyard. The ceremony will also include a flag raising by the Navy ROTC and special recognition of Rice employees and students for military service. A reception will follow the 20-minute ceremony.
