Plans to build an amusement park in place of the Flagship Hotel in Galveston will be the topic of discussion at today's city council meeting. Council members will vote on giving the hotel's owner, Landry's Restaurants, a special use permit for the park which will be called Pleasure Pier. The pier will boast a double-decker carousel, a ferris wheel and other attractions the pier featured when it was built in 1943.

Landry's says the landmark hotel's structure wasn't up to renovation.
