Fifth Ward homeowners receive home makeovers
HOUSTON
Employees of Reliant Energy and NRG Texas went to the rundown homes of three senior citizens and started fixing up their houses. The volunteers replaced siding and trimmed and painted the houses.
The teams also rebuilt a collapsing carport while replacing doors, window panes and screens.
"I'm just so happy and I'm so thankful for you all out here working and just making me look pretty out here. I wish I could turn the inside outside, because it's so pretty," said homeowner Nettie Hardy.
"We work with seniors, We work with folks on fixed incomes, and we spend a lot of time doing those things they just can't or their families can't help them with anymore," said Gene Fisseler of Reliant Energy.
Reliant and NRG Texas have repaired more than 50 homes of low-income Houston seniors since 2002.
