BAE Systems has started its first round of layoffs after losing out on a long-time contract to build military vehicles. The company is cutting the positions in Sealy and at a plant in Michigan. BAE started eliminating about 600 temporary positions last month, and it's looking to cut up to 1,300 jobs overall.

BAE says the workers who are laid off are getting severance packages.
