College textbooks now available for rent
HOUSTON
Over the last several years, the price of textbooks has gone up as much as 14 percent a year. The problem is so bad the new federal laws went into effect this summer to regulate the textbook industry and protect students.
Students here say saving as much as 50 percent on textbooks by renting is a big relief.
"With tuition and everything like, plus me trying to hold a part time job, it's important to save up for the summer and every other activity you have," student Abdallah Sbaiti said, "so it's really important to save on textbooks as much as you can."
All books have due dates for the end of the semester, and there are late fees for not returning the textbooks on time.
