HOUSTON
A subcontractor was working on what will be METRO's north line Tuesday morning on Fulton near Quitman when the accident happened.
A METRO representative said the utility lines had been clearly marked. However, two side by side lines posed a problem for the subcontractor.
"During our utility relocation work a subcontractor accidentally hit a gas line," explained METRO spokesperson Margaret O'Brien-Molina.
Homes and businesses around Fulton and Quitman were evacuated. METRO sent a bus to allow residents to keep cool while CenterPoint worked on the gas line. The problem has now been fixed.
