Marathon registration notices go out

HOUSTON More than 29,000 runners signed up for the event, but only 22,000 spots were available. It's the first time marathon officials went with the controversial lottery system, instead of doling out registrations on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Some runners we spoke with found out their training partners won't be running alongside them this year.

"I found out I was selected and he was not," said runner Fazio Eliz. "It's very discouraging when you run with a good friend and you train and someone was received and someone is rejected."

Marathon officials say they understand the disappointment, but feel this is the fairest way to hold the registration.
