Men sentenced for Baytown man's murder
HOUSTON
Andre R. McLelland, 29, and Deon J. Johnson, 31, had been held at the Harris County Sheriff's Department since they were arrested and charged with capital murder. McLelland pleaded guilty on Friday, and Johnson entered his plea on Monday.
Detectives said the men are responsible in the shooting death of Tristan Ray Jones. The men and a third person spotted Jones in the parking lot of a Baytown grocery store and persuaded him to cruise with them in their car.
The third person inside the car told police that Johnson, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, suddenly turned around and shot Jones twice in the face. The driver then parked the vehicle on the side of a highway in the city and dumped Jones' body on the pavement.
But before they took off, McClelland took a 9mm pistol and shot Jones a third time.
Jones' body was discovered by two women riding together in a car and called 911.
An investigation led detectives to McClelland and Johnson and to the vehicle in which Jones was shot. His blood was found in the vehicle and was used as evidence in the case.
