One dead after car crashes into semi in NW Houston

HOUSTON Police are investigating the fatal traffic accident on Hempstead at Dacoma about 5:50am Friday. The male victim was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Police say the victim was driving a Buick eastbound on Hempstead when he ran the red light and turned left (north) onto Dacoma. His vehicle struck an 18-wheeler traveling westbound on Hempstead through the intersection with a green light.

The victim remained at the scene until he heard sirens approaching. At that time, he ran and then collapsed. Paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital where he later died.
