Suspect who dragged officer by vehicle to appear in court

HOUSTON Joe Fitzgerald, 85, was pulled over by police Monday for a possible DUI. He initially ignored officers, but eventually stopped his vehicle. Police say an officer approached the suspect's vehicle and the suspect then attempted to flee. The officer was caught between the guardrail and the driver's side door, and dragged by the vehicle for about 500 to 800 feet.

The officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital at the time with neck and leg injuries, but is expected to be OK.

Fitzgerald is charged with aggravated assault of a police officer.
