Fallen officers remembered, honored

HOUSTON

A special ceremony with a 21-gun salute was held at the Police Officers Memorial near downtown. Officers marched along memorial drive to the memorial. A wreath was placed for the fallen officers.

HPD's New Chief Charles McClelland says officers should be commended for putting their lives at risk every day.

"It's easy to be brave from a safe place," he said. "But as we know, as a police officer, we're not always afforded that opportunity."

In 2009, 11 Texas law enforcement officers died in the line of duty.
