Two men rear-ended De la Cruz's car and sprayed her face with sulfuric acid last month. Police connected Martinez to the crime through phone conversations he had with an inmate at the Willacy County Detention Center, The McAllen Monitor reported Thursday. Police believe Martinez hired the men who attacked De la Cruz. It was not immediately clear who was representing Martinez.
Martinez remained jailed Thursday.
