Three-year-old drowns in backyard pool

HOUSTON At about 11:15am Sunday, deputies with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office were called to a home in the 13000 block of Barn Course Drive in the the Old Orchard Estates subdivision. The preliminary investigation reveals three-year-old Kayla Cocom was found in the pool located in the back yard. The mother immediately got her out of the water and began CPR.

Upon arrival, Deputies began assisting with CPR until EMS arrived. Kayla was transported to Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Child Protective Services was notified and Galveston County Medical Examiners Office will conduct an autopsy investigation, both of which are standard procedures in death investigations of a child.
