Galveston County stages disaster drill
GALVESTON, TX
The law officers staged a disaster recovery exercise to demonstrate a new checkpoint management system. The system allows private and public organizations to register essential personnel and notify checkpoint and emergency personnel as to whom will return to the island and when.
"In theory it's a good idea. We're gonna have to see the practical application," said Galveston Police Department Lt. Henry Porretto. "Anything to aid us, law enforcement, in returning people and help to our community, is welcome with open arms."
Law officers ran into a big problem with long lines of people wanting to get onto Galveston Island after Hurricane Ike.
