Negative ad coming in race for mayor

HOUSTON Gene Locke's campaign has released a new radio ad aimed at Peter Brown. It's airing primarily on African-American radio stations and claims Brown tried to buy the support of some African-American ministers.

Early in Brown's campaign, he claimed he had the support of 100 black ministers. KTRK political consultant Dr. Richard Murray says the ads are not high risk.

"All the candidates in this race who have a chance of winning are Democrats," he said. "They're all pretty liberal, so there's not much of a risk of running a negative ad in the black community when you are fighting for a majority of that segment."

Dr. Murray says the candidates are positioning themselves for a runoff.
