Homeowner fatally shoots suspected intruder

HOUSTON The homeowner came home around 9:30 this morning to discover an intruder had broken in to his home on Norton near Bingle. Police say the homeowner armed himself with a shotgun and searched the house. When the homeowner tried to open a closet door, police say the suspect jumped out at him. The homeowner then fired several times and struck the suspect.

The suspect died at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

The homeowner has not been charged at this time and was not injured in this incident.
