Arrest made in Sugar Land hit-and-run

SUGAR LAND, TX We first told you about the story Wednesday night and Sugar Land police say the driver in the hit-and-run turned himself in to authorities.

We have reaction from the victim's father who says he's relieved to hear about the arrest, but it doesn't help his son who is right now in surgery at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Blake Matthew Powell, 19, turned himself into the Sugar Land Police Department late Wednesday night. Police, acting on a tip, had already issued an arrest warrant for Powell for aggravated assault.

Powell is accused of running over Brent Hilton, 27. Hilton was attending a party at a friend's house Saturday night and according to authorities was run over at least twice by Powell who was driving a pickup truck.

Brent's father, Dr. Ted Hilton, spoke with Eyewitness News Wednesday night saying his son suffered a broken leg, broken ankle and broken back as well as several other broken bones and internal injuries. He says his son is in surgery Thursday and remains in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Powell is being held in Fort Bend County jail charged with aggravated assault and is being held on $200,000 bond.
