"I heard the gunshots and it sounded like firecrackers to me, so I thought he was joking," said eyewitness Henry Mills. "He came up closer. I saw the flesh wound, and he was really shot. So I called 911 and did what I could do."
The victim died at the hospital. The shooter tried to flee on a bicycle, but an off-duty sheriff's deputy who saw the shooting tackled and held the shooter until authorities arrived.
