Last day to remove debris in Bolivar Peninsula

GALVESTON, TX Since Hurricane Ike, contractors have removed an estimated 1.8 million cubic yards of debris in Galveston County. Some 500,000 cubic yards of debris remain.

FEMA picked up most of the tab for the cleanup. To save money, the county will be getting rid of debris through controlled burns. Workers will be picking up debris on High Island, Gilchrist, Port Bolivar and Crystal Beach.
