Six-foot gator caught in lake at Sherman park

SHERMAN, TX Parks and Recreation administrator Kevin Winkler says the trap at Pickens Lake was checked Wednesday and the alligator was inside.

The chicken, in a separate cage within the wire trap, was unharmed.

Winkler says a person at Herman Baker Park on Sunday noticed the alligator. Texas Parks and Wildlife experts were notified. Traps were set Tuesday.

Winkler doesn't think the alligator "had ever been a pet, or that somebody released it." He believes the reptile migrated to the area.

The gator was being taken to a wildlife rehabilitation center for evaluation.

The park was to reopen later Wednesday.
