Sgt. David Cantu arrived home Wednesday on leave from Kuwait. His mother-in-law in Rosenberg adorned her yard with U.S. flags and a welcome home sign with Cantu's name on it. But Mary Valdez said she was "wounded" Tuesday to discover the flags and sign were gone.
Police spokeswoman Lynn Mumford says Officer Danielle Delgado did the theft report, then got a new sign for Cantu.
Mumford praised Delgado, who wasn't available to be interviewed Thursday, for the "generous act."
Cantu says "a hug and a thank you" was a good enough welcome home for him.
