According to the team, Berry had a cancerous right kidney that was removed using a laproscope, leaving only a two-inch scar on his abdomen. Doctors do not believe he will need any follow-up cancer treatments.
The 43-year old Berry will remain in the hospital for about three or four days, and is expected to return to his full-time duties in about two weeks.
The 43-year old coach is in the midst of his fourth season with the Astros. He played for the team from 1996-1998.
