The American GI Forum of Texas presented the awards at its board meeting in southeast Houston. Board members also discussed veterans' issues, which they say are especially important to promote now while the state legislature is in session.

"We want to make sure all the bills and legislation that we're supporting get plenty of support from our members, visits to the different legislators," said Gil Rodriguez, Executive Director of the American GI Forum of Texas.

The board's main focus is education and employment for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
