Accused killer commits suicide in jail

TYLER, TX Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith on Thursday released autopsy results indicating Christopher McCuin died of an overdose from an antidepressant prescribed by a jail psychologist.

The 26-year-old inmate died Dec. 7 after being found unresponsive in his cell. Smith says McCuin committed suicide.

McCuin was charged with capital murder in the January 2008 death of 21-year-old Jana Shearer of Whitehouse.

Police have said they found an ear boiling in a pot on a stove at the crime scene, and a hunk of flesh on a plate. Authorities say it was unclear whether McCuin consumed any part of the victim's body.
