The Independent Insurance Agents of Houston on Tuesday named engineer operator Laura Archibald its firefighter of the year. Archibald was selected from four finalists.

Archibald has worked for the department for 15 years and helped develop the distress and suicide prevention program.

"It is firefighter in distress suicide prevention and basically what we do is bring the awareness to the firefighters that there are more options than just suicide," said Archibald.

Archibald says HFD has not seen a single firefighter suicide in the past year.
