A deputy with Precinct 6 was escorting a funeral procession on S. Dairy Ashford near Westheimer shortly before 1pm when the accident happened. Witnesses say the procession had stopped and the deputy was going to the front when the vehicle came from Ashford Meadow onto Dairy Ashford and struck the officer. The deputy reportedly T-boned the car and was thrown 24-30 feet.
The deputy did have his lights on at the time, according to witnesses.
The deputy was taken to Hermann Hospital via Life Flight. He was reportedly conscious, but sufffered facial trauma, chest pain and a broken arm.
Houston police are investigating the accident. There's no word yet if the driver involved will be ticketed.
