Janitor falls 6 stories to his death

HOUSTON It happened at around 7:40pm yesterday at a building along south Dairy Ashford near Whittington. Police say the janitor and a security guard were closing the skylight when the janitor slipped on some rainwater.

The building is an atrium style building and water was starting to pour in because of the rain. The custodian, whose name has not been released, wented to help the guard who was on the roof of the building.

"They both struggled with the skylight and the cleaning crew member actually fell through the open skylight six floors onto the granite floor inside the building," said Officer J. Coffelt with the Houston Police Department.

Authorities say the janitor died instantly.

Police aren't sure if there had been problems with closing the skylight in the past.
