Accused killer to use insanity defense

HOUSTON /*Juan Quintero*/ appeared in court Thursday morning for a pre-trial hearing. He's accused of killing Officer Johnson back in September 2006. Prosecutors say he shot the officer in the back of the head with a gun that he had hidden in his waistband.

His attorney is asking to change Quintero's plea to not guilty by reason of insanity, meaning he was suffering from a mental disease or defect and unable to understand that was he was doing was wrong.

Jury selection in Guintero's trial is scheduled for March 31.
