Texas Tech (3-5) took a 4-3 lead in the third as Joey Kenworthy hit an RBI single, Jason Seefeld added a two-run single and Roger Kieschnick had an RBI double.
Rice tied the game with an unearned run in the fifth.
Bryan Price (1-1) picked up the win in relief for Rice. He gave up three hits and struck out two in two innings.
James Leverton (0-2) took the loss, giving up an unearned run in the eighth.
