HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The elite runners, the everyday heroes and the runners who inspire just by lacing up and hitting the pavement -- they all took to the streets at the 2024 Chevron Houston Marathon and the Aramco Houston Half Marathon.
The excitement sprang into action at 7 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 14 and it did not disappoint. With cold temperatures dropping even further during the race, plenty of attention was on the weather early. It seemed the elite athletes thrived in the conditions, setting records upon records.
The men's elite athletes finished the Aramco Houston Half Marathon in a tight pack, with five athletes crossing the finish line within seven seconds. Jemal Yimer was the official winner with a time of 1:00:42.
The pace continued with the women's half marathon winner, Sutume Kebede, who had a record-setting time of 1:04.37.
Weini Kelati came in fourth among the women, setting a USA record of 1:06:25. As if the records themselves weren't already impressive enough, Kelati said this was her visit to Houston, and her first ever half marathon!
Zouhair Talbi kept things going, setting a record as he won the Chevron Houston Marathon with a time of 2:06.
With a time of 2:19:33, Rahma Tusa Chota is the Chevron Houston Marathon 2024 women's winner with her first marathon victory since 2018.
