HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A homeowner shot and killed an intruder inside his apartment in southwest Houston late Wednesday, according to police.

It happened at a complex on Westridge St. and Hearth Drive, near the South Loop and South Main.

Authorities told ABC13 that at about 10:30 p.m., multiple people broke in. While one suspect knocked on the door, two other suspects made their way in through a window.

Once inside, one of the suspects pointed a gun at one of the tenants, who then knocked the weapon out of the suspect's hand. A struggle ensued, and the suspect pulled out a second gun, but the tenant wrestled it away from him and fired it.

Two other suspects fled the scene on foot.

According to the Houston Police Department, after reaching out to the Harris County District Attorney's Office, it was determined the case would be reviewed by a grand jury.

Authorities said the incident appeared to be an attempted burglary.
