On Friday, 12 talented elementary school students took the stage in an ode to the civil rights icon in this year's Gardere Martin Luther King, Jr., Oratory Competition.
The fourth- and fifth-grade students answered the question, "What would Dr. King say if the March on Washington were held today?"
The first place spot went to Amari Venzor, a fifth-grader at Cornelius Elementary School.
Amari won a $1,000 prize for taking the top spot. This is the 18th year of the competition.
