Diego Baldemar Islas, 21, is charged with intoxication manslaughter. According to witnesses, Islas was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastbound on Pierce and ran the red light at the intersection of Milam. The Chevrolet then struck a white Mercedes C230.
Police say the rear passenger in the Mercedes died at the scene. His identity has not been released.
The driver of the Mercedes and a passenger in the Chevrolet were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with minor injuries and are expected to survive. Police say Islas was found to be intoxicated and subsequently charged.
