Investigators arrest man after pot grow house found

HOUSTON

Investigators say this is becoming all too common. Another grow house right in the middle of a decent neighborhood. Neighbors on Bent Pine near Sunshine Park say they had no idea.

In the middle of a suburban neighborhood, Ron Hearn didn't expect to hear authorities cocking shotguns.

He said, "Whoops! I need to be in the house, not out on the street!"

When Hearn saw the police and the guns, he knew he was best to stay out of the way. He was just a few doors down from the raid.

He said, "I met the guy that lived there, the Vietnamese guy. I met him once."

Investigators arrested a man they identify as Daw Huynh, 38. They say he actually didn't live in the house; he just ran a sophisticated marijuana growing operation inside.

Our cameras were allowed in to show you the plants – more than 200 of them -- with a street value of nearly $1 million. Inside was an extensive network of wires, lights and vents.

Deputies say the man arrested had been running the grow house since August. He'd not only blacked out the windows, but allegedly tapped into the electrical line before the meter. They say he even tried to keep neighbors from noticing the smell of the pot by venting everything up through the chimney.

Neighbor Joe Emmett said, "Never knew it, live right down the street."

Neighbors say they had no idea -- proof that you can live on the same street with someone and not really know what happens behind their closed doors.

Investigators say the home is a mess inside -- holes in the walls, carpet destroyed, mold. They tell us the suspect was renting and the homeowner knew nothing about this.
