It happened around 8:15pm on Tidwell near Mesa. Houston police say the victim was driving a maroon Toyota Corolla at a high rate of speed westbound on Tidwell and failed to stay in his lane. The Corolla struck a curb and then veered into the eastbound lanes of Tidwell. The victim then tried to return to his lane but was unable to do so and was struck by a silver GMC Envoy traveling eastbound on Tidwell.
The victim, who police say was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed on impact. He has been identified as 20-year-old Daniel Hope.
The driver of the Envoy was transported to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators say neither driver seemed to be under the influence of alcohol.
