Early voting underway for special election to replace deceased State Sen. Mario Gallegos

HOUSTON

He died last October from complications of liver disease. Eight people are running to replace him in Senate District 6, including R.W. Bray, State Representative Carol Alvarado, and Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia.

"State Senate District 6 is one of five Senate districts that are wholly or in part within Harris County. It is a high profile position that merits the attention and participation of all the voters who reside within Senate District 6," said Stan Stanart, Harris County Clerk and Chief Election Official.

Election Day is January 26.

The early voting schedule is as follows:

  • January 9-11 from 8am - 4pm
  • January 14-15 from 8am - 4pm
  • January 16-19 from 7am - 7pm
  • January 20 from 1pm - 6pm
  • January 21-22 from 7am - 7pm

There will are seven early voting locations:

  • Harris County Administration Building - 1001 Preston, 1st Floor, Houston 77002
  • Holy Name Catholic Church - 1912 Marion Street, Houston 77009
  • Ripley House - 4410 Navigation Boulevard, Houston 77011
  • H.C.C.S Southeast College, Learning Hub - 6815 Rustic, Bldg D, Houston 77087
  • Galena Park Library - 1500 Keene Street, Galena Park 77547
  • Hardy Senior Center - 11901 West Hardy Road, Houston 77076
  • Baytown Community Center - 2407 Market Street, Baytown 77520

Eligible registered voters may also vote early by mail in Texas. The last day to apply for a ballot by mail is January 18.
