DNA evidence leads to Walgreens ATM theft suspect's arrest

FRIENDSWOOD, TX

Scott Lance Bennett, 26, was arrested around 7:30pm Thursday in the 7600 block of Curry in northeast Houston, according to the Friendswood Police Department. The Houston resident was then turned over to Friendswood police, where he remains behind bars on a felony theft charge.

Detectives say Bennett was one of the three masked suspects who rammed a stolen pickup truck through the glass doorway of a Walgreens at the intersection of FM 518 and FM 528 on October 8 and loaded the store's ATM in the back of the truck and fled the scene.

The men allegedly then drove to a nearby park, where they moved the ATM into another vehicle and abandoned the stolen truck.

Detectives say they found DNA evidence at the scene, and when they submitted it for analysis, the results matched it to Bennett.

It wasn't immediately known whether the other two suspects have been identified or arrested.

Bennett's bond has been set at $20,000.
