Deputies were called to a theft at Best Buy, located 510 Gulfgate Center, around 11:15am Saturday. They arrived and detained the alleged shoplifter as he exited the building.
Officials said Ruben Mendiola, 50, was in possession of about $269 worth of stolen merchandise.
They ran his name through a computer check and found out Mendiola had an outstanding parole violation warrant for a murder case that originated out of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in October 1983.
According to investigators, Mendiola was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison. He was released on parole in 1999.
The parole violation warrant was confirmed by the State Parole Board and the suspect was taken into custody and transported to Harris County Jail
