It happened shortly after 9am at the Wells Fargo bank inside the Randall's on New Territory Boulevard at the Grand Parkway. Investigators say a stolen Dodge Durango pulled up to the store and two men got out. They went to the bank where they were able to get an undisclosed amount of cash and began to leave.
Sgt. Mike Ellison with the Harris County Sheriff's Office was entering the store as a customer and confronted the suspects. That's when the suspects and Sgt. Ellison exchanged gunfire.
Sgt. Ellison, a 26-year veteran with the Sheriff's Office, was hit in both the leg and shoulder. He was transported by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he's listed as stable.
The suspects managed to get away, leaving the scene in the Durango in which they came.
Detectives are looking for at least three male suspects connected to the robbery and shooting. They say one of the men was wearing a white hoodie pullover with a skull pattern on the front and back of the hoodie. The front pattern depicts a white skull on a black and green background, while the pattern on the back has two skulls on a black and green background. Both subjects were wearing bandanas over their faces.
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
