Car bomb kills 1, injures 25 in southern Thailand

PATTANI, Thailand Police Col. Kritsada Kaewjandee says the improvised explosive device was planted in a car and exploded Monday morning as a pickup truck carrying paramilitary officers passed by in the city of Yala.

Yala is one of the three provinces in Thailand's deep south where a Muslim insurgency has killed 4,300 people since 2004.

The blast killed one soldier and wounded six officers and 19 civilians.

In February, two deadly bombings using vehicles as decoys occurred in the same area.

Insurgents were blamed for another blast Monday that injured two policemen in neighboring Narathiwat province.
